Mario Moore
Mario Moore's paintings combine striking realism with an exploration of the personal, social, and political implications of a still segregated society. In American Windows, Moore portrays a singular figure seated inside in front of a set of windows, looking out at the viewer: frustrated by the events unfolding outside. A small gun rests on the windowsill which frames the violent mob we see through the central window. Flanked by two windows which look out into fiery voids, the center scene is filled with protestors, holding guns, signs, and flags: one figure, donned in a red Trump hat, peers through the window, jeering and yelling. A mix of emotions seem to run across the face of the man seated inside: disappointment, anger, resignation, and sadness consume his thoughts as he tries to cope with the uncertainty of the ever-present threats waiting just outside his door.
