Bendt Eyckermans
Bendt Eyckermans comes from a long tradition of Flemish artists in his family. Currently, Eyckermans practices at the studio in Belgium which his grandfather and father also used to create their art. Inspired by the Flemish art historical tradition, the sculptural practices of his father and grandfather, and by the subculture of his own generation Eyckermans works are tethered both to tradition and modernity. His family history of artists piqued First’s interest, and after seeing a video of the incredible studio where Eyckerman works and hearing his background, First knew he wanted to have him come to The Cabin LA. In this work, Sorry we are closed, a mysterious and frustrated figure stands statuesque and static ⎯ with their feet planted one in front of another with one hand outstretched and one clenched. Eyckermans is represented by Andrew Kreps Gallery, Carlos/Ishikawa, and Gallery Sofie Van de Veld.
