Alessandro Teoldi
Alessandro Teoldi was born in Milan, Italy in 1987 and moved to Brooklyn, New York early in his career. This move far away from the artist’s home, was a catalyst for his present work with in-flight airline blankets. After leaving Italy, Teoldi found himself always wanting to recreate that space of home: the domestic space, an intimate space. He recalls being fascinated by the idea that blankets are something we provide on airplanes to facilitate a sense of safety and a sense of home. Inspired by this and by the photography he studied for many years, Teoldi takes airline blankets, cuts them, and sews them together into scenes of bodies and hands often holding one another or clasped together. When Teoldi came to The Cabin LA in June of 2018, First was taken with his innovative mindset and the distinctive works he was creating. After leaving the residency program, Teoldi’s career continued to flourish, and in 2021, he collaborated with Valentino on their Fall/Winter 2021 haute couture show. Teoldi is represented by Marinaro, Galleria Acappella, and Capsule Shanghai.
