Tom Poelmans
Tom Poelmans is a Flemish artist who received his MFA from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp in 2019. Though initially Poelmans was an abstract artist, following a trip to Florence where he was inspired by the Medieval and pre-Renaissance art, Poelmans began practicing as a figurative painter. Intrigued by the concept of free will, classical symbolism, and surrealism Poelmans works play with scale, perspective, and myth in his paintings. Poelmans so enjoyed his time in Los Angeles at The Cabin LA in February of 2019 that he had a drawing of the Cabin visibly tattooed on his leg! First often continues to try and support artists after their stay at the Cabin, and even recommended Poelmans to art dealer Rodolphe Janssen leading to the artist being represented by Janssen’s Gallery shortly thereafter.
