Caleb Hahne Quintana
Caleb Hahne Quintana’s mesmerizing orange paintings from his residency are inspired by the striking southern California skies ⎯ which at the time were being affected by large-scale wildfires tearing through the state. Based in Denver, Colorado at the time, Hahne Quintana was struck by the fact that similar fires were happening in his home state. He recalls leaving the studio one day during his residency and seeing great plumes of smoke rising in the distance while everyone continued about their day, not even looking up to see the smoke, utterly unaffected. In this work, Wake me before you go, we see a figure with their back turned to us with their head down looking away from the orange haze of the fires which frame the figure’s head and torso. Hahne Quintana has stated that his time at The Cabin LA was a spiritual experience, and that his artistic practice has been altered by the residency. Hahne Quintana is represented by Anat Egbi.
