Ina Gerken creates from a space between great tensions; her artworks find the balance between the  chaos and the calm, the abstract and the symbolic, the intuitive artistic impulses and the creation of a  balanced composition. First remembers being taken by the deep emotions embedded in her works. In  Untitled (Warning), as in many of Gerken’s pieces, her style allows us to see aspects of her process,  only thinly veiling, or fully exposing the layers that lie beneath the surface. We are at once lost in the  overlapping lines and shapes, and yet unafraid of the lack of grounding this work provides the viewer.  Gerken’s masterful compositions exist in a moment where all the forces that compete for our attention  ⎯ the colors, scribbles, circles, dashes, and forms, are in perfect harmony.
